The background
Dartmoor National Park is home to the annual Ten Tors expedition challenge and on our Dartmoor Expedition Experience you’ll get a feel of what it is like to take part in Ten Tors as you undertake your own expedition.
We can tailor it for your requirements so it ignites your spirit of adventure or tests your resilience. It can include navigating up onto the open, windswept moors with their far reaching views and sense of remoteness and wildness, to building your own shelter, making dinner and sleeping out on Dartmoor – hopefully under a star-laden sky.
Suitable for
This adventure is perfect for individuals and small groups. It can be adapted for families with children aged 5+. For group sizes larger than 6, get in touch.
Your instructor
You’ll have your own qualified, experienced instructor who provides leadership for the activities and who carries out risk assessments prior to the experience being run.
Weather
We offer this experience in all seasons so be prepared for a variety of weather conditions including rain, strong wind or mist. We'll provide a packing list prior to the experience.
Adventure Okehampton
Our Dartmoor Expedition Experience has been created in partnership with Adventure Okehampton, the team behind YHA Okehampton and one of only three YHA Activity Centre in England and Wales. Their main ethos is to provide people with a chance to experience Dartmoor and to undertake a range of challenging activities of different levels. As their website says, “where you stay changes who you become”.
Experience Location
This experience starts at Okehampton YHA (the base for Adventure Okehampton), which is easy to get to from all directions. Come on the train using The Dartmoor Line but if you come by car there is ample parking for all visitors onsite.
